Hace 4 días · The latter, created Viscount Hereford in 1550, died in 1558 and his grandson and heir Walter Devereux, who became Lord Bourchier in 1571 and earl of Essex in 1572, died in 1576 leaving his son Robert as his heir.
Hace 1 día · At her death in 1571 the manor passed to her cousin Walter Devereux, Viscount Hereford and later earl of Essex (d. 1576). (fn. 35) Robert Devereux, earl of Essex, son of the last, sold Little Hallingbury in 1588 to Thomas Sutton, who planned to build Charterhouse hospital there.

Born Penelope Devereux at Chartley Castle in Staffordshire, she was the elder daughter of Walter Devereux, 2nd Viscount Hereford, later 1st Earl of Essex and Lettice Knollys, daughter of Sir Francis Knollys and Catherine Carey, and sister of William Knollys, later 1st Earl of Banbury.

It is bound with the commonplace book of Nicolas Hanslopp (ff. 22r-75v). The first poem in the collection is the same as that of Osborn a5, "The Foure-Fould Meditations," by Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel.
