Hace 5 días · In 1215, a group of barons, led by Robert Fitzwalter, renounced their allegiance to the king and took up arms against him. After months of negotiation and threats of civil war, King John agreed to meet the barons at Runnymede, a meadow along the River Thames, on June 15, 1215.

Resenting his dismissal, the baron asserted his claim to be patron of the cell, and alleged that he possessed a deed from the parent abbey by which it was stipulated that no prior could be removed without the patron's assent.
