His parents, who were sixth cousins, came from wealthy, established New York families—the Roosevelts, the Aspinwalls and the Delanos, respectively.

Chandor was a prominent portrait artist who painted many well-known mid-twentieth century figures, including Herbert Hoover (@hooverlibrarymuseum) and Queen Elizabeth II.
