29 de may. de 2024 · This was Sidney, Second son of Edward Montagu, first Earl of Sandwich, who married Anne, daughter and heir of Sir Francis Wortley, Bt., and assumed the surname of Wortley. His eldest son, Edward Wortley Montagu, married Lady Mary Pierrepont, the famous Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.

26 de may. de 2024 · William Gery succeeded his father in 1638, but the next year he sold them to Sir Sidney Montagu, whose son Edward, first Earl of Sandwich, was lord of the united manors in 1667.

26 de may. de 2024 · James Montagu, Bishop of Bath and Wells in 1608, and of Winchester in 1616 — died 1618. He was uncle to the Earl of Sandwich, whose mother was Pepys’s aunt. Hence Pepys’s curiosity respecting the tomb.
