Hace 1 día · the abbey of tewkesbury According to the chronicle of Tewkesbury, Oddo and Dodo, two Saxon lords who lived during the reign of three Mercian kings, Ethelred, Kenred, and Ethelbald, founded the first monastery at Tewkesbury.
Hace 3 días · Following abolition, Henry VIII created the new Diocese of Gloucester and on 3 September 1541, the abbey church became its cathedral, with John Wakeman, last abbot of Tewkesbury, as its first bishop. The diocese covered the greater part of Gloucestershire , with small parts of Herefordshire and Wiltshire .

Born on Milk Street in the City of London, on 7 February 1478, Thomas More was the son of Sir John More, [11] a successful lawyer and later a judge, [3] [12] and his wife Agnes ( née Graunger). He was the second of six children. More was educated at St. Anthony's School, then considered one of London's best schools.

Hace 6 días · The site and gardens of Abbey Lawn House, fronting on the Crescent in High Street, were part of the gift of 1939, which established the Abbey Lawn Trust to improve the abbey and its setting. Abbey Lawn House was demolished in 1964, and its site thrown into the churchyard.
