Hogg first met Shelley at Oxford and was expelled with him in 1811 for his share in writing a pamphlet called “The Necessity of Atheism.” He later studied law at London’s Middle Temple

Hace 6 días · Another celebrity of the place was Thomas Jefferson Hogg, a lawyer and literary man, born at Norton in 1792, being the eldest son of John Hogg of Norton House. He was educated at Oxford, and there made the acquaintance of Shelley, becoming his friend and biographer.
28 de may. de 2024 · In his brief time at Oxford, before being sent down for publishing a pamphlet on atheism, he developed a close friendship with Thomas Jefferson Hogg, the co-author of the pamphlet. Hogg has much to say about his impressions of Shelley.

They maintained their intense programme of reading and writing, and entertained Percy Shelley's friends, such as Thomas Jefferson Hogg and the writer Thomas Love Peacock. Many buildings in the city still bear his name. One such is the Ruskin School of Art, Univ’s neighbour on the High Street since 1975.
