Hace 3 días · Thomas, who died in 1723, was succeeded by his son Sir Thomas Watson-Wentworth, created Lord Malton in 1728, Earl of Malton in 1733 and Marquess of Rockingham in 1746. He was father of Charles Marquess of Rockingham, who succeeded him in 1750, was twice prime minister, and died childless in 1782.

The 1st Viscount Wentworth, as he had become, became a privy counsellor in November 1629. On 12 January 1632 he was made Lord Deputy of Ireland, arriving in Dublin on 23 July the following year.
