23 de may. de 2024 · The Chronicle of Lanercost gives a grim account of the subsequent execution of the prisoners at Carlisle, the head of Thomas de Brus having been placed on the keep of the castle. (fn. 19) Several of the priors of Wetheral were advanced to the distinction of being abbots of the mother church of St. Mary, York, and one of them was appointed to the great priory of Durham.
Hace 6 días · Robert de Brus V is mentioned as the tenant of Hartness under Peter de Brus in 1272, and dated a charter at Hart in 1288. (fn. 75) He died 31 March 1295, and was succeeded by his son, Robert de Brus VI, (fn. 76) the second competitor, who married Marjory, daughter and heir of Niel Earl of Carrick, and thus brought this title into the family.
Hace 5 días · There was probably a mill here in 1086 ; there were certainly in 1119–24 at least two which were given by Robert de Brus to the priory, with soke and multure. The mill of Ravenesdale and the West mill are mentioned, the one in the 12th century, the other a little later.
