Hace 3 días · The city suffered a catastrophic disaster in 738 A.D. when Uaxaclajuun Ub’aah K’awiil, one of the greatest kings in Copán’s dynastic history, was captured and beheaded by his former vassal, the king of Quiriguá.
His name (mind you, this is a "royal name" that he assumed when he took office, and is surely not what his wife or parents called him) was Waxaklajuun Ubaah K'awiil. That means 18 (Waxaklajuun) are the heads (Ubaah) of the lightning/war god (K'awiil).
