Hace 2 días · William John Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, also known as Lord John Bentinck, was born in 1800 to William Bentinck, the 4th Duke of Portland. As a younger son, he was not originally destined to inherit the title. However, upon the death of his brother, William Henry, in 1824, he became the Marquess of Titchfield and heir to his father's dukedom.
30 de may. de 2024 · After this the honor of Penrith remained in the crown till 1696, when it was granted to William Bentinck, Earl of Portland. It is now the property of the Duke of Devonshire, whose father purchased it of the late Duke of Portland in 1787.

Hace 2 días · The house in Bulstrode Park was erected by the Duke of Somerset between 1855 and 1865 on the site of a house built by the notorious Judge Jeffreys in 1686 and enlarged by William Bentinck, the first Earl of Portland. On a hill to the south-east of the house are ancient earthworks.

26 de may. de 2024 · 3. Reforms under William Bentinck. During the administration of Governor-General William Bentinck, the four Circuit Courts were abolished. Their duties were given to the Collector, who was in charge of them under the direction of the commissioner of revenue and circuit.
