Hace 6 días · Another tile has the crowned initials of William Paulet, first marquess, in a quatrefoil. A number of similar tiles, found on the site of Basing House, are now in the museum there. In recent repairs of the church three different levels of tiled floor are reported to have been found.

27 de may. de 2024 · The abbey‘s fate took a surprising turn when Henry VIII granted the buildings to Sir William Paulet, his Lord Treasurer and later the Marquess of Winchester. Paulet, seizing the opportunity, transformed the abbey into a series of opulent apartments for his personal use.
