31 de may. de 2024 · Seymour, Duke of Somerset. — This noble family first became connected with Devonshire in consequence of the Protector Somerset's purchase of the castle and manor of Berry Pomeroy, in the reign of Edward VI.
Hace 4 días · The estate passed, with Moorland manor in North Petherton, to Sir John Seymour, and from him to his son Edward, duke of Somerset. On the duke's attainder and execution in 1552 his son John claimed the manor as the inheritance of his mother, the duke's first wife.

He married, secondly, Lady Arethusa Berkeley, daughter of George Berkeley, 1st Earl of Berkeley and Elizabeth Massingberd, before 12 May 1688.2

See video below. 1536 – Edward Seymour was created Viscount Beauchamp of Hache, Somerset, following the wedding of his sister, Jane Seymour, and Henry VIII.
All their influence in central and North Wales reverted to the house of Pembroke. Most of the South Wales offices passed to William Herbert, 1st Earl of the second creation. However, William's eldest son, Edward Somerset (1553-1628), 4th Earl, recovered parts of the family's Welsh influence.
