18 de may. de 2024 · Edmund Beaufort, 2nd duke of Somerset, English nobleman and Lancastrian leader who wielded enormous power in the government of the weak king Henry VI. Somerset’s quarrel with Richard, duke of York, helped precipitate the Wars of the Roses (1455–85) between the houses of Lancaster and York.

23 de may. de 2024 · The manor descended to William Seymour (cr. marquess of Hertford 1641, duke of Somerset 1660). He died in 1660 and was succeeded by his grandson William (d. 1671) and then by his own second son John (d. 1675).
Hace 5 días · The estate passed, with Moorland manor in North Petherton, to Sir John Seymour, and from him to his son Edward, duke of Somerset. On the duke's attainder and execution in 1552 his son John claimed the manor as the inheritance of his mother, the duke's first wife.

However, William's eldest son, Edward Somerset (1553-1628), 4th Earl, recovered parts of the family's Welsh influence.
