It was created by a man named Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr. Ziegfeld was born on March 1867 in Chicago, IL and was destined for a life in show business.

Ziegfeld's relationship with Klaw and Erlanger had dated to the mid-1900s, when the syndicate had paid him $200 a week to present vaudeville; by 1907, he had come up with the Follies.
