Alexander Alexandrovich was heir apparent to the Russian throne as the second but eldest surviving son of Emperor Alexander II and Empress Maria Alexandrovna (née Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine).

Dagmar gradually developed a romantic attraction toward Alexander. They then married in October 1866, and Dagmar took the name "Maria Feodorovna" after converting to Russian Orthodoxy.

The lot is accompanied by its original purchase receipt. It is estimated at $150,000-$200,000.
