Hace 4 días · A Royal Acquisition. In 1792, Queen Charlotte, the devoted wife of King George III, purchased Frogmore House as a much-needed retreat for herself and her unmarried daughters. The tranquil surroundings provided a welcome respite from the formalities of court life and allowed the royal ladies to indulge in their artistic and intellectual pursuits.
9 de may. de 2024 · Frogmore, the site of the mausoleum of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, lies within the park. South of the castle lies the Great Park, with about 1,800 acres (700 hectares). The Long Walk, a 3-mile (5-kilometre) avenue leading into the Great Park, was planted by Charles II in 1685; its aging elm trees were replaced by younger trees in 1945.

Days after the death of Prince Albert in December 1861 Queen Victoria choose a site for a mausoleum, which now stands on the west side of the gardens at Frogmore House. The building was designed by Professor Ludwig Gruner from Dresden and built by architect A.J. Humbert.
21 de may. de 2024 · A year after his death, his remains were deposited at the Royal Mausoleum, Frogmore, which remained incomplete until 1871. The sarcophagus, in which both he and Victoria were eventually laid, was carved from the largest block of granite that had ever been quarried in Britain. [124]
2 de may. de 2024 · Apart from the days Frogmore House and Park are open, you won’t be able to enter the area. There are signs hanging on the fences with warnings. A tiny bit further you will notice the covered roof of the royal mausoleum at Frogmore , which was being restored at the time.
Hace 6 días · The queen started building a mausoleum at Frogmore, a royal estate close to Windsor Castle, soon after Albert's passing; it wasn't finished until 1871. The tomb is not open to visitors. But from the immaculate grounds of nearby Frogmore House, which will reopen to the public later this year, they can see the imposing structure.
