20 de may. de 2024 · At the time there were two surviving branches of the Wittelsbach family: Palatinate-Zweibrücken (headed by Maximilian Joseph) and Palatinate-Birkenfeld (headed by Count Palatine William). Maximilian Joseph inherited Charles Thedore's title of Elector of Bavaria, while William was compensated with the title of Duke in Bavaria.
His Serene Highness Prince Joseph Wenzel of Liechtenstein was born on May 24, 1995, at Portland Hospital in London, England. Known as Prince Wenzel, he is the eldest of the four children of Alois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein and his wife, born Princess Sophie of Bavaria.

Under his reign the country became a modern state. He was able to keep the country neutral in World War II.

The Principality of Liechtenstein, along with the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, is the only German small state that has been able to maintain its sovereignty right to the present day.
