Hace 5 días · When we think of the British royal family in the Victorian era, Queen Victoria immediately comes to mind. But fewer may be familiar with Princess Feodora of Leiningen – Victoria‘s beloved elder half-sister who was a vital source of support, affection and guidance throughout the queen‘s life.
20 de may. de 2024 · Victoria, by her own account, “was brought up very simply,” principally at Kensington Palace, where her closest companions, other than her German-born mother, the duchess of Kent, were her half sister, Féodore, and her governess, Louise (afterward the Baroness) Lehzen, a native of Coburg.
2 de may. de 2024 · The Princess was buried at the nearby cemetery, next to her husband. Among the guests, as on her birthday, were the Duchesses Donata and Edwina, the last remaining members of the family. Also Borwin, Duke zu Mecklenburg, of the Strelitz branche had come. A memorial service will take place on 1 July 2019, 4.30pm in the Kirche St. Johannis in Gera.

While her parents stayed at Buckingham Palace, Feodora stayed with her young cousin Princess Alice of Battenberg at the home of the Dowager Duchess of Buccleuch at Whitehall, allowing the girls to watch the royal procession as it made its way to
2 de may. de 2024 · Princess Woizlawa and her husband lived in Gera, in the East of Germany, until the end of World War II. Then they had to fled for the Russians who were coming. They found a save heaven in Büdingen, Upper Hesse, where a sister of her husband lived. Only in 1991 she moved back to Gera. Now she lives in the South of Germany.
2 de may. de 2024 · The name Feodora comes from Woizlawa’s mother’s side and doesn’t occure elsewhere in the Mecklenburg genealogy. Her grandmother Elise was born a Princess zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Elise’s paternal grandmother was Princess Feodora zu Leiningen, whose mother was Princess Viktoria zu Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld (1786-1861).
