Acting in his vice-regal capacity and under direction from the UK government, the Governor of Southern Rhodesia , Humphrey Gibbs , dismissed the prime minister and his government but this action was ignored by Smith.

Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin was borne in Procession on a Gun Carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster where the Queen Lay in State.
