Mann’s dramatization of the 60 Minutes expose on the tobacco industry is a gripping, powerfully made film about the importance of the fifth estate and its struggles against corporate interests, anchored by a trio of untouchable performances.
The Insider stars Russell Crowe as whistle-blower Jeffrey Wigand who is convinced to tell the world about the truth about what the tobacco companies do behind closed doors by 60-Minute producer Lowell Bergman.
Mann excels at putting a bunch of heavyweight actors in the same room and letting them cook. Crowe disappears into the role and it's one of his most interesting. Pacino and Plummer were both robbed of Oscar nominations. I think it's one of Pacino's best performances and Plummer should have outright won. Reply.
