Hace 2 días · Salem was incorporated as a town in 1626 by Roger Conant, who emigrated from Cape Ann, 14 miles (22 km) northeast. The first Congregational Church in America was organized there in 1629, and Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island colony, served as an early pastor.

25 de may. de 2024 · Peter Minuit, the Director of the New Netherland colony in modern-day New York and New Jersey, is credited with the purchase of Manhattan Island from local Native Americans. The purchase took place in 1626 when Minuit, on behalf of the Dutch West India Company, acquired the island for 60 guilders, equivalent to $24 in American currency.
