31 de may. de 2024 · The artist Graham Sutherland’s infamous 1954 portrait of Sir Winston Churchill, commissioned by Parliament for his 80th birthday so enraged its aged subject, his faithful secretary had it destroyed.
31 de may. de 2024 · Winston Churchill painted about 550 works — about half of which were painted between 1930 and 1939 – with new pieces being occasionally discovered. He affectionately called them daubs — only six of which he sold and even then, under a pseudonym.

He wrote an autobiographical history of the war, The World Crisis. The first volume was published in April 1923 and the rest over the next ten years.

Commissioned by Parliament, Sutherland’s painting was presented to Churchill in a lavish televised ceremony at London’s Westminster Hall on Nov. 30, 1954 — and never seen again.
