Gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder August Wilhelm Schlegel brachte er die zentrale frühromantische Zeitschrift Athenaeum heraus, ab 1820 erschien unter seiner Mithilfe Concordia, eine bedeutende Zeitschrift der Wiener Spätromantik.
