15 de may. de 2024 · Biography. Daniel D. Tompkins, (born June 21, 1774, Scarsdale, New York, U.S.—died June 11, 1825, Staten Island, New York), sixth vice president of the United States (1817–25) in the administration of Pres. James Monroe. He previously served as governor of New York (1807–17).

Tompkins was worried about the run the popular and wealthy Van Rensselaer could give him. However, Tompkins soon devised a way to remove him from the picture, which was to offer him command of the U.S. Army of the Centre.
