Egmond-Binnen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɛxmɔndˈbɪnə(n)]) is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Bergen, and lies about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) southwest of Alkmaar. History. The village was first mentioned in 922 as Ekmunde. The etymology is unknown.
Egmond-Binnen is vooral bekend van het klooster en de abdij van Egmond, de Sint-Adelbertabdij. Dit is de oudste abdij van Nederland, opgericht in de tiende eeuw. Het klooster speelde een belangrijke rol in de oorlog tussen de Hollanders en de West-Friezen, en later over een groot gebied van West-Friesland.
