Hace 4 días · Augustus Keppel, Viscount Keppel, second son of William Anne Keppel, Earl of Albemarle, was born in 1725 and entered the navy at the age of ten. In 1740 he served under Anson in the celebrated voyage round the world, and in 1744 was promoted to be commander and post-captain.
The offices of gentleman of the bedchamber were in the gift of the Crown. (fn. 1) From 1660 the office of first gentleman was invariably coupled with that of groom of the stole.
