The collective drew on the teachings of Russian actor and theatre director Konstantin Stanislavsky, who at the beginning of the 20th century revolutionised the craft of acting.

The four of them, along with Stella Adler, were among the original members who launched the famed Group Theatre. The Group Theatre’s first season opened in the fall of 1931, and Meisner played a variety of roles.

She holds an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, where she received the Lucille Lortel Award for playwriting. She studied with, among others, Michael Feingold, Len Jenkin, Lynne Alvarez, and Tina Howe.
