Hace 3 días · The estate passed, with Moorland manor in North Petherton, to Sir John Seymour, and from him to his son Edward, duke of Somerset. On the duke's attainder and execution in 1552 his son John claimed the manor as the inheritance of his mother, the duke's first wife.
Hace 6 días · Thereafter it evidently passed successively to Sir John Seymour (d. 1536) and his son Edward, duke of Somerset (d. 1552). (fn. 43) In 1553, during the minority of Edward's son, Edward, earl of Hertford (d. 1621), the custody of the manor was granted to John Dudley, earl of Warwick, but it was confirmed to the heir in 1581–2.
Hace 1 día · The manor was held by the Crown until 1547 when it was granted to Edward Seymour, duke of Somerset (d. 1552). It was briefly resumed by the Crown in 1550. Seymour's son Edward, later earl of Hertford, successfully claimed some of his late father's lands and was confirmed in possession of Meare in 1582.
I also listed the Seymour family as the holders of the Dukedom of Somerset due to the Dukedom being currently held by John Seymour, 19th Duke of Somerset (b. 1952), of the Seymour family. The current Duke of Norfolk is Edward Fitzalan-Howard, 18th Duke of Norfolk (b. 1956).
