Hace 2 días · The story of the foundation of this house is told by a contemporary Dominican, Ralph de Bocking, in his life of Richard Wych, Bishop of Chichester. Edmund de Lacy, son of John de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, and Margaret de Quincy, was born in 1227.
Hace 2 días · The memory of the bishop is retained in the name of a small court between the Inn and Chancery Lane, still called "Chichester Rents." Having passed through one intermediate owner, it became the residence of Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, to whom Edward I. made a present also of the old friars' house.

10 de may. de 2024 · With Mearley TWISTON was in 1102 granted by Robert de Lacy, lord of Clitheroe, to Ralph le Rous. Afterwards it seems to have reverted to the superior lord, for it was held in demesne by the heir of the Earl of Lincoln in 1242 as the tenth part of a knight's fee, being of the dower of the countess.
