In an interview, Steve Howe stated that “Mood For A Day” was inspired by his love for classical guitar music, and specifically by the works of Spanish composer and guitarist Segovia. Howe wrote the song while on tour with Yes in 1970, during a period when the group was experimenting with different musical styles.
