The two pieces on this first disc get particularly impressive performances.
Hace 23 horas · Dafne is the earliest known work that, by modern standards, could be considered an opera. It was composed by Jacopo Peri in 1598 and the libretto was written by Ottavio Rinuccini. A second version of Dafne with Vittoria Archilei was performed publicly for the first time on the 21st of January 1599 in Palazzo Pitti, Firenze.
