Hace 20 horas · Peter Hammill has said that one of the songs that most influenced him was the 17-and-a-half-minute In Held ’Twas In I from Procol’s 1968 album Shine On Brightly. He realised then that it was okay to write something of that kind of length and ambition.

Some may say it is well suited to VDGG and their darker/angrier moments, others think it is a brooding menace that gives his more stripped back acoustic songs another layer to unwrap. This, his first solo album, could be called his hippie/Kevin Ayers effort.

In another mild swipe at Bowie’s creative stature, Lydon deemed Hammill as the more original of the two. “Peter Hammill is great. A true original. I’ve just liked him for years,” he said.
