It features Hill in a sextet with alto saxophonist Eric Dolphy, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, trumpeter Kenny Dorham, bassist Richard Davis and drummer Tony Williams.

1 de may. de 2024 · Accessible, but still has that edge that makes Hill's compositions and playing so unique and fresh-sounding, even today. The music isn't as restless as some of his later works, but hits the spot. This is about as good as it gets if you're looking for something maybe a bit more adventurous than say Black Fire, but not quite as out there as Point of Departure.

17 de may. de 2024 · Andrew Hill / Point Of Departure - 日々JAZZ★. 全5曲、アンドリュー・ヒルの作品。 それら全てを完璧に表現するため、リチャード・デイビスのベース、トニー・ウィリアムスのドラム、そしてフロントを3管にしてヒルは厚みを出したかったのだろう。 しかし、3管の中にエリック・ドルフィーを入れたことで、他の2管の存在が薄くなってしまった。 これは、アルバム全体から受ける印象。 ケニー・ドーハムやジョー・ヘンダーソンの印象が薄いのではなく、聴き終わって残るのはドルフィー独自の憂鬱な響き。 それを承知でヒルはメンバーを配置したはず。 ドルフィーのディスコグラフィーを見ると、ヒルとのスタジオセッションはこのアルバムだけ。
