24 de may. de 2024 · It’s the closest bridge to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and sees the least traffic of the city’s bridges. Blackfriars Bridge. Built in 1869, Blackfriars Bridge gained notoriety in 1982 when Vatican bank chairman Robert Calvi was found dead on it.
Hace 6 días · It was made free of toll in 1785. Mylne's bridge lasted just over 100 years. Its decay was hastened by the increased scour in the bed of the river following the rebuilding of London Bridge. The present Blackfriars Bridge, which was designed by Joseph Cubitt, was commenced in 1864.
Hace 2 días · Old Blackfriars Bridge, pulled down a few years since, was begun in 1760, and first opened on Sunday, November 19, 1769. It was built from the design of Robert Mylne, a clever young Scotch engineer, whose family had been master masons to the kings of Scotland for five hundred years.

Originally called St. Paul’s Bridge, Blackfriars Railway Bridge was designed by John Wolfe-Barry, who was also the architect behind Tower Bridge, and Henry Marc Brunel, second son of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This is the second bridge to bear this name.

Southwark Bridge would be built just off the eastern extreme of this panel in 70 years’ time. Millennium Bridge, which now runs due south of St Paul’s, wasn’t even close to a twinkling in a gamete’s eye.
