In 1983, Charlie Haden reunited most of the principal members of his 1969 Liberation Music Orchestra, including some of the leading creative jazz musicians, such as Don Cherry, Michael Mantler and Paul Motian. Together, they recorded a new album titled The Ballad of the Fallen.

His story, the story of the International Brigades’ struggle against fascist tyranny, and the music that inspired and came out of that struggle, found their way onto Charlie’s debut album as leader, Liberation Music Orchestra, recorded in NYC in 1969. This world was opened to him when he met my mother in 1964.

  7. 22 de may. de 2024 · After his stint with the Ornette Coleman Quartet, Haden would go on to appear on a number of significant recordings with fellow jazz luminaries, including Hank Jones and Pat Metheny. As a bandleader, he captained some of the most progressive ensembles in jazz, such as The Liberation Music Orchestra, Old and New Dreams and Quartet West.
