Old, picturesque, storied, full of character, riverine, tucked away on its isthmus, sitting pretty – that’s Chiswick. Comes of ancient stock. The name means ‘cheese-farm.’. And ancient? Chiswick’s been answering to its name for 1,000 years.
Chiswick Park and avenues such as Lawford and Staveley roads south-west of Chiswick House had finally been built up by 1935, while Chiswick House and its landscaped park were acquired for the public in 1929.

It is known chiefly for Chiswick House, near its centre, and for 18th- and 19th-century buildings at Chiswick village, hereafter referred to as Old Chiswick, and Strand-on-the-Green, respectively at the eastern and western ends of the loop.
