Hace 3 días · In 1675, Giovanni Domenico Cassini determined that Saturn's ring was composed of multiple smaller rings with gaps between them; the largest of these gaps was later named the Cassini Division. This division is a 4,800-kilometre-wide (3,000 mi) region between the A ring and B Ring .

Hace 6 días · Cassini is the largest interplanetary spacecraft ever constructed by NASA. It measures 6.8 m in length with a 4 m high gain antenna. At launch the spacecraft had a mass of 5,655 kg, of which 3,132 kg were propellant. Cassini is three-axis stabilized.

Hace 5 días · Giovanni Domenico Cassini (1625-1712) observed Iapetus from the Paris Observatory, but could only see it when it was on Saturn's west side. He surmised that it was darker on one side than the other, a theory later proven with a more powerful telescope. The darker hemisphere was named Cassini Regio, in honour of its discoverer.
The Cassini voyage around the planet continues. Huygens is named after Christiaan Huygens, the Dutch astronomer who discovered Titan. The Cassini part of the probe is named after Giovanni Domenico Cassini who discovered a few Saturns moons and the separation of the rings.

Sunspots and limb darkening can be clearly seen. Mercury is transiting in the lower middle of the Sun's face.
