The "Kingpin" name is a reference to the crime lord title in Mafia slang nomenclature.

Kingpin, has been expanding his influence in the MCU.D'Onofrio first appeared as Kingpin in Netflix's Daredevil series, and while his future as the iconic Marvel villain was in jeopardy after Daredevil's cancelation, D'Onofrio has since reprised the role in the MCU proper in Hawkeye and Echo.

Formed in their self-titled episode and the episode "Battle of the Insidious Six", the Kingpin assembles Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, the Shocker, the Chameleon, the Rhino, and the Scorpion to help him settle a debt with his enemy Silvermane.
