Hace 1 día · In 1954, Astaire was about to start work on a new musical, Daddy Long Legs (1955) with Leslie Caron at 20th Century-Fox. Then, his wife Phyllis became ill and died of lung cancer. Astaire was so desolate that he wanted to shut down the picture and offered to pay the production costs out of his own pocket.

Like the movie, the stage musical is based on the 1912 novel “Daddy-Long-Legs” by Jean Webster. If you’ve seen the film, you might want to put aside your biases for (or against) Hollywood glitz and glamour.

11 de may. de 2024 · You should check out a copy of the Fred Astaire/Leslie Caron 1955 version of Daddy Long Legs. There were people at that time who felt discomfort about the old man and the young lass tale, but it was a good movie. And Astaire’s dancing and drumming are terrific.
