Scott Moir's aunt paired him and Tessa Virtue together when Virtue was seven and Moir was nine. His aunt was a skating coach at the time and figured the athletic children would make a good match. Years later, the two ended up being an Olympic masterpiece.
Funnily enough, the two "dated" for a few months as little kids but were too afraid to even look at each other, so they just held hands! But even Scott's aunt knew all those years ago that these two were a match made in ice skating heaven.
“We’re doing our job,” Moir told an interviewer about the romantic speculation. “We’re always telling stories. We’re supposed to be reacting, a man and woman on the ice. It’s romantic. What we have is such a cool relationship." Moir added, "It's more about a friendship, our working relationship is so strong. We take so much pride in that.”
In an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen basically told Tessa and Scott what all the fans were thinking: "Even though you’re not together, you should be,” Ellen said. The pair played the newlywed game on the show as well, and there's a good chance this non-couple would beat the majority of real couples out there.
Scott and Tessa were on the ice together for more than half their lives. Stepping away from the sport that is so near and dear to their hearts was very emotional and impactful for them both, but it was clearly meaningful to the two of them that they were able to retire together.
