Peter French (April 30, 1849 – December 26, 1897) was a rancher in the western United States in the late 19th century. The community of Frenchglen, Oregon, was partially named for him.

The ranch was built by Peter French, a well known 19th-century cattle baron. The P Ranch became headquarters for the French-Glenn Livestock Company , which eventually covered over 140,000 acres (570 km 2 ).
Peter was born and raised in Dundee, Scotland. Singing was his passion from a very early age, from the local church choir, St. Margaret’s, Barnhill, to his primary and senior school choirs, the latter also performing with the Dundee School’s Choir in the presence of The Queen as part of her Silver Jubilee.
At the end of the 19th century, much of the land was controlled by powerful cattlemen such as Brenton's boss, Peter French. Though he stood only five-and-a-half-feet tall and weighed just 125 pounds, French had a huge reputation.
