Samuel Washington (November 16, 1734 – September 26, 1781) was an American planter, politician and military officer best known for being the younger brother of the first president of the United States, George Washington.

For much of the Revolution, George sent Samuel many letters describing the war’s course and hardships. He even included sensitive information such as troop movements.

His first wife was Jane Champe. Samuel Washington lived at Chotank Creek before building Harewood in the 1770s.
