Bajo Ma'ad al-Muizz Li-Dinillah, Chauhar al-Siqilí conquistó Egipto a la dinastía ijshidí, y fundó una nueva capital al norte de Fustat, el actual El Cairo, en el año 969.

Al-Mu’izz es un atributo de Dios y significa que Dios Todopoderoso concede honor a quien le place. Este atributo se encuentra en el siguiente dicho de los Santos Profeta (Paz y Bendiciones sean con él):
