    Schuyler Colfax was born to Schuyler Califax and Hannah Striker on Mar. 23, 1823 to Schuyler Colfax and Hannah Strykerin Schodack, Rensselaer, New York. His father died from tuberculosis before his birth. Schuyler's mother, Hannah, ran a boarding house, along with her mother. She eventually married George W. Matthewsin 1834.
