Hugh of Cyfeiliog, 5th Earl of Chester ( / kəˈvaɪliɒɡ / kə-VY-lee-og, Welsh: [kəˈvɛiljɔɡ]; 1147 – 30 June 1181), also written Hugh de Kevilioc, [needs IPA] was an Anglo-French magnate who was active in England, Wales, Ireland and France during the reign of King Henry II of England.

Biography. Hugh Gernon was a member of the aristocracy in England. 1141 Birth. Richardson states that he was born about 1141, since he was of age in 1162. [1] Wikipedia states that Hugh of Cyfeiliog the 5th Earl of Chester was born in 1147, possibly in Cyfeiliog, which since 1996 has been part of Gwynedd. [2]

Matilda of Chester, [1] Countess of Huntingdon (1171 – 6 January 1233) [2] was an Anglo-Norman noblewoman, sometimes known as Maud and sometimes known with the surname de Kevelioc. She was a daughter of Hugh de Kevelioc, 5th Earl of Chester, and the wife of David of Scotland, Earl of Huntingdon .
Hugh de Kevelioc used six wheatsheafs on his arms. His son Ranulf de Blondeville reduced their number to three, and this form has become an emblem of Cheshire generally, despite later earls bearing different arms. [2] Blazon: Azure, three garbs ( sheafs of wheat).

Hugh of Kevelioc (born either 1141 or 1147), 3rd Earl of Chester was also known as Hugh le Meschin. He succeeded to the titles of Vicomte d'Avranches and Earl of Chester on 16 December 1153. He joined the revolt against King Henry II in 1173, was captured and deprived of his Earldom, but was then restored in January 1177.
