Amaury de Montfort (1242 or 1243 – 1301) was the third son of parliamentary pioneer Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, and Eleanor of England, daughter of King John. Biography. Amaury entered the priesthood as a young man, and held the positions of Treasurer of York Cathedral, canon of Rouen, Évreux, London and Lincoln.

Amaury VI de Montfort is often overshadowed by the two Simons – his father, the leader of the Albigensian Crusade, and his younger brother, the English revolutionary.

Simon de Montfort (born 1165?—died June 25, 1218, Toulouse, France) was a French leader of the Albigensian Crusade declared by Pope Innocent III against the Cathari, an unorthodox religious group in southern France. In 1190 Simon married Alice de Montmorency (died 1221).
De Montfort's eldest son Amaury attempted to regain the earldom but finally agreed to allow his younger brother Simon to claim it in return for all family possessions in France.
