15 Minutes with Bing Crosby was Bing Crosby 's first solo radio series, which aired on the CBS network from September 2, 1931 until October 31 of the same year. It was to have a major impact on his career.
By 1936, Crosby replaced his former boss, Paul Whiteman, as host of the weekly NBC radio program Kraft Music Hall, where he remained for the next decade. " Where the Blue of the Night (Meets the Gold of the Day) ", with his trademark whistling, became his theme song and signature tune.
In 1929, Whiteman agreed to take part in a weekly radio show for Old Gold Cigarettes for which he was paid $5,000 per broadcast. By 1936, Crosby had become a major recording star and the host of NBC’s Kraft Music Hall, a weekly showcase for his casual manner, self-deprecating humor and mellifluous singing voice. In 1946, Crosby became the first radio star to embrace the new technology of recording tape.
