The Main Chance is a British television series first aired on ITV in four series between 1969 and 1975. It is a drama series that depicts the sudden transformation in the life of a solicitor, David Main (played by John Stride), after he moves from London to Leeds.

As Margaret tries to understand the problems of a woman incapable of coping with life and a bullying husband, Main flies to Cuba to buy the release of a former Castro minister who is now a political prisoner. He finds himself in a horrifying situation in which law and order mean virtually nothing.

Created by Edmund Ward, The Main Chance was produced by David Cunliffe and John Frankau and ran for four series between 1969 and 1975. Initially made in black and white, as the series’ popularity grew and it transferred to colour, some episodes even included overseas filming.
