Matthew I (French: Mathieu de Montmorency; died 1160) was lord of Montmorency, Marly, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Attichy. He was also Constable of France from 1138 to 1160 under Louis VII. He was the eldest son of Bouchard IV de Montmorency and Agnes de Beaumont-sur-Oise.

Matthieu II of Montmorency had an important share in the victory of Bouvines (1214). As he captured 12 enemy flags at Bouvines, he was permitted by the king to display 12 eagles on his coat of arms. He was also made constable in 1218.
MATHIEU [I] de Montmorency, son of BOUCHARD [III] Seigneur de Montmorency & his first wife Agnes de Beaumont (-1160). "Dnus Bucardus de Monte Morentiaco" donated property to the abbey of Saint-Martin de Pontoise for the souls of "uxorisque suæ, filiorum filiarumque suarum" with the consent of "filium suum Mathæum" by charter dated [1102][633].
