Gwen Raverat (1885-1957) The granddaughter of naturalist Charles Darwin, Gwen Raverat was one of the first women to insist on and achieve professional training as an artist. She attended the Slade School in 1908, quickly developing her own painterly style of wood-engraving.
Gwen Raverat (1885-1957) was one of England's greatest wood-engravers and a leading figure in the revival of the art form in the 20th Century. She was the grand-daughter of Charles Darwin, one of Rupert Brooke's Neo-Pagans and Virginia Woolf's Bloomsbury group.
